Meetiyagoda

The moonstone mines of Meetiyagoda are situated in the hinterland. This is one of the very few places in the world where blue gleaming moonstones are found.

A number of stores and stalls sell jewellery made with these semi-precious stones.

The best way of getting to the moonstone mine is by three-wheeled taxi, more commonly known as "tuc tucs".
